In
a significant push towards sustainable rural development and clean energy
adoption, Hindalco Industries Limited, Hirakud, has installed biogas units
under its flagship livelihood initiative “Project Basudha,” benefiting local
farmers through the Integrated Renewable Energy and Sustainable Agriculture (IRESA)
scheme.
The
initiative, spearheaded by Hindalco’s CSR department, aims to seamlessly
integrate renewable energy sources such as biogas, solar, and wind with
sustainable agricultural practices. Designed to promote environmental
conservation while enhancing farmers’ economic resilience, IRESA is emerging as
a model for holistic rural development.
On
Wednesday, biogas units were handed over to farmers T. Rani of Silipathar
village, Gunanidhi Killei of Ranibandh, and Arjun Singh of Kalupada in Hirakud.
The installations are expected to significantly ease daily cooking needs while
generating organic manure, thereby supporting the shift towards eco-friendly
and cost-effective farming practices.
The distribution programme was attended by Anand Chakravarty, CSR Manager, Hindalco; Sukanta Kumar Mahapatra, Advisor; Robin Khan, Branch Head of BAIF Development Research Foundation; and Jayanta Pradhan, AI Technician, along with several farmers from nearby villages.
Notably, the company had earlier facilitated the installation of two biogas units in Nuajamda and Mohammadpur villages under the same project. With each installation, Project Basudha continues to strengthen rural livelihoods by reducing dependency on conventional fuels and promoting sustainable agriculture.
