Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) strengthened its commitment
to safer mobility by engaging young citizens in Odisha through an extensive
road safety awareness campaign, reaching over 2,000 students across Bhubaneswar
and Cuttack. As part of its nationwide initiative, the company conducted
interactive learning sessions at Narayana e-Techno School in Bhubaneswar and
DAV Public School in Cuttack, creating a collaborative platform for dialogue,
learning and shared responsibility on the road.
The campaign
focused on building a strong and practical understanding of road behaviour
among students, introducing them to the fundamentals of safe riding practices,
the importance of traffic discipline and the role of awareness in everyday
commuting. HMSI emphasised that road safety is not merely about following
rules, but about developing daily habits that protect both individuals and the
larger community.
Participants
were engaged through structured and interactive formats designed to make
learning relatable and impactful. Safety riding theory sessions formed the
backbone of the programme, helping students grasp key concepts in an engaging
manner while encouraging active participation. By addressing common real-life
scenarios encountered on Indian roads, the sessions enabled students to
directly connect classroom learning with everyday experiences.
With
two-wheelers playing a vital role in daily transportation across Odisha, HMSI’s
initiative aimed to promote informed and responsible behaviour among current
and future road users. The company underscored the need for early
sensitisation, particularly among young citizens, to ensure that safe practices
become second nature as they grow into independent commuters.
Guided by
Honda’s global safety slogan, ‘Safety for Everyone’, HMSI reiterated its
long-term vision of integrating mobility with safety. The company’s road safety
initiatives align with Honda’s global vision announced in 2021, which aims for
zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles
by 2050. In India, HMSI is working in tandem with the Government of India’s
objective of reducing road fatalities by 50 percent by 2030.
A key pillar
of this vision is nurturing a positive road safety mindset among children by
2030 and sustaining education efforts beyond. HMSI believes that road safety
education in schools and colleges goes beyond awareness, helping to instil a
deep-rooted safety culture and transform young learners into road safety
ambassadors who can contribute meaningfully to a safer society.
Reaffirming
its philosophy of being “a company that society wants to exist,” HMSI continues
to expand its CSR initiatives with innovative approaches tailored to diverse
segments, from schoolchildren to corporates and communities at large. The
company’s trained safety instructors conduct daily programmes at 10 adopted
Traffic Training Parks and six Safety Driving Education Centres across India,
taking road safety education to every corner of the country. These initiatives
have already reached over 10 million Indians.
HMSI’s
National Road Safety Awareness Programme blends scientific learning with
hands-on experience through structured modules covering road signs, markings,
riding posture, protective gear and safe riding etiquette. Participants also
gain exposure to practical learning through Honda’s virtual riding simulator,
which helps them experience and understand over 100 potential road hazards
before actual riding. Interactive sessions such as Kiken Yosoku Training
further enhance the ability to predict danger and adopt safer driving
behaviour, while existing riders among students and staff are given
opportunities to hone their skills through controlled riding activities.
Further strengthening
its digital outreach, HMSI has recently launched its innovative E-Gurukul road
safety learning platform. Designed for children aged 5 to 18 years, E-Gurukul
offers age-specific training modules in multiple languages, including Kannada,
Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and English, ensuring inclusivity and regional
relevance. The platform supports live streaming and downloadable content,
making road safety education accessible across diverse regions. As part of its
expansion plans, HMSI aims to take E-Gurukul to schools in every state,
empowering children, educators and dealers to champion safer road practices
across India.
