The ICAR–Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research (ICAR-IIOR), Hyderabad, will organise a National Consultation and Industry Interface Meet on September 10 to accelerate the commercialisation, validation and large-scale deployment of innovative technologies aimed at boosting India’s oilseed production and strengthening self-reliance in edible oils.

The meet, to be held at the ICAR-IIOR campus in Hyderabad, will focus on “Innovations in Varieties/Hybrids, Biologicals and Biopolymer-Enabled Multilayer Seed Coating Technologies for Sustainable Agriculture: Industry Partnerships for Technology Commercialization and Scaling”.

India is among the world’s major vegetable oil economies, and rising demand for edible oils has underscored the need to accelerate domestic oilseed production through faster development, commercialisation and adoption of innovative agricultural technologies.

Against this backdrop, ICAR-IIOR has developed a range of promising technologies, including improved oilseed varieties and hybrids, biopolymer-enabled seed enhancement technologies and microbial biopesticide formulations.

The industry interface is expected to provide a platform for closer engagement between researchers and the private sector, with participation from representatives of the seed industry, biopesticide and bio-input companies, technology licensees, agri-business firms, start-ups and entrepreneurs.

During the meet, ICAR-IIOR will showcase its promising technologies and explore avenues for technology transfer, licensing, public-private partnerships and large-scale deployment.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening research-industry linkages and fostering greater collaboration among stakeholders to facilitate the validation, commercialisation and adoption of innovative oilseed technologies.

The institute said such partnerships can play a key role in taking research-driven solutions from laboratories and field trials to farmers at scale, thereby contributing to sustainable growth of India’s oilseed sector and helping address the country’s growing edible oil requirements.
