Demonstrating rapid emergency response and operational preparedness, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) carried out extensive restoration measures following severe Nor’wester conditions that disrupted power supply in several parts of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday evening.

The severe thunderstorm, accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong winds, affected areas including Sisupalgarh, Satya Vihar, Kesura and adjoining localities, leading to temporary interruptions in electricity supply after tree branches, hoardings, banners and other external objects came in contact with power infrastructure at multiple locations. During the peak impact period, the power distribution system witnessed a sudden demand drop of nearly 270 MW within a span of just 15 minutes, highlighting the intensity of the weather disturbance.

Responding immediately to the situation, TPCODL mobilised emergency response teams and field personnel across the affected areas to undertake restoration work on priority. Operation and maintenance teams remained continuously engaged on the ground, working tirelessly to remove obstructions, attend to faults and restore electricity supply in a safe and efficient manner with continuous monitoring of the network.

Despite challenging weather conditions, restoration activities were undertaken in a phased manner to ensure early normalisation of affected feeders and consumer supply while strictly adhering to all required safety protocols. The coordinated field response and network monitoring enabled the utility to expedite restoration efforts and minimise inconvenience to consumers across the impacted areas.

TPCODL’s swift action once again reflected the utility’s commitment towards maintaining reliable power supply and ensuring rapid response during extreme weather events affecting the state capital.
