In a significant move
aimed at transforming India’s e-commerce logistics landscape and strengthening
last-mile delivery capabilities across the country, the Department of Posts and
Flipkart India Private Limited have signed an Agreement for Last Mile Parcel
Delivery Services.
The agreement was
formally signed in the national capital by Neeraj Kumar Jha, General Manager,
Parcel Directorate, Department of Posts, and Harvinder Kapur, Director -
Commercial, Flipkart India Private Limited. The signing ceremony was held in
the presence of Adnan Ahmed, Chief General Manager, Parcel and CCS Directorate,
Department of Posts, Dippy Vankani, Director (Corporate Affairs), Flipkart
India Private Limited, along with senior officials from both organisations.
The collaboration is
designed to combine India Post’s unparalleled physical reach and trusted
delivery infrastructure with Flipkart’s strong position in India’s rapidly
expanding e-commerce sector. Under the agreement, the Department of Posts will
provide last-mile delivery services for Flipkart shipments across the country,
ensuring faster, more reliable and customer-centric parcel movement.
A key highlight of
the partnership is its nationwide coverage, enabling Flipkart to leverage India
Post’s extensive network of over 1.6 lakh post offices. This will significantly
enhance delivery access across urban, semi-urban, rural and remote regions,
including underserved areas that often face logistical challenges.
The agreement also
introduces comprehensive delivery solutions, including handling of prepaid and
cash-on-delivery parcels, OTP-based delivery authentication, and real-time
shipment tracking. These features are expected to improve transparency,
operational efficiency and customer trust in the delivery ecosystem.
Emphasising enhanced
customer experience, the collaboration focuses on faster deliveries, better
coordination between logistics networks and seamless technology integration to
ensure smooth parcel movement across the supply chain. The partnership is also
expected to provide a strong boost to India’s e-commerce growth by
strengthening the underlying logistics infrastructure.
For Flipkart India Private Limited, the agreement opens up wider market access and improved serviceability, particularly in regions where last-mile connectivity has been a persistent challenge. At the same time, it is expected to enhance the parcel business of the Department of Posts by improving utilisation of its vast delivery network and logistics capabilities.
The partnership aligns with the ongoing transformation efforts of the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications, as it continues to evolve into a modern logistics organisation catering to the dynamic needs of India’s digital economy.
