TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a joint venture between
Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, is accelerating its green energy
transition by deploying rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across 114
office buildings in Western Odisha.
As of August 17,
2026, these rooftop solar installations have collectively generated 8,92,537
units (kWh) of clean electricity, delivering significant energy savings while
helping avoid an estimated 732 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. The initiative enables TPWODL
to meet a portion of its operational energy requirements through renewable
sources, while reducing its dependence on conventional power.
The initiative
underscores TPWODL’s commitment to embedding sustainability across its own
operations and leading by example in Odisha’s clean energy transition. By
adopting renewable energy across its office infrastructure, the company is
demonstrating the potential of rooftop solar as a sustainable, scalable and
cost-effective energy solution.
Commenting on the
initiative, TPWODL CEO Parveen Verma said, “The solarisation of our office
infrastructure reflects TPWODL’s commitment to leading by example in Odisha’s
clean energy transition. By integrating renewable energy into our own
operations, we are reducing our carbon footprint while demonstrating the
potential of rooftop solar as a sustainable and cost-effective energy solution.
We will continue to expand renewable energy adoption while enabling consumers
across Western Odisha to participate in India’s growing clean energy movement.”
Building on this
progress, TPWODL plans to further strengthen its renewable energy footprint by
installing an additional 100 kW of rooftop solar capacity across its office
infrastructure during the coming financial year. The expansion will leverage
applicable incentives and support available under schemes of the Ministry of
New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Beyond its own
operations, TPWODL is also facilitating rooftop solar adoption among domestic
consumers across Western Odisha. Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana,
eligible domestic consumers can avail themselves of government financial
assistance for rooftop solar installations, helping reduce upfront costs and
enabling long-term savings on electricity bills.
To make rooftop solar
more accessible to households, TPWODL has also introduced its 1 kW ULA Model,
under which eligible households can install a rooftop solar system by paying
only ₹1,875. TPWODL facilitates the
complete installation process and provides a five-year warranty
on equipment, along with a 25-year performance warranty on solar panels,
offering consumers long-term reliability and hassle-free operation.
TPWODL is responsible for electricity distribution and retail supply across Western Odisha, serving more than 2 million consumers across nine districts and covering a distribution area of approximately 48,000 square kilometres.
