India and Singapore on Thursday stepped up efforts to deepen their economic partnership, with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal holding a series of high-level bilateral and business engagements focused on trade, investment, technology and new areas of commercial cooperation.

Goyal, who was in Singapore for the engagements, called on Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Istana before participating in the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) and the fourth India-Singapore Business Roundtable (ISBR).

The high-level meetings provided a platform for the two sides to review the growing economic relationship and explore fresh avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation, followed by an MoU signing ceremony.

The Commerce Minister also held a series of government-to-business meetings with senior representatives of the global business and institutional community, including the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN) and Keppel Infrastructure.

The discussions centred on expanding India-Singapore collaboration in emerging and high-potential areas such as agri-exports, GCC-based commercial parks, fintech and sustainable infrastructure, according to an official statement.

Goyal also jointly visited an APEDA-FairPrice initiative at City Square Mall with Singapore Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry Gan Siow Huang. The initiative showcased the growing agricultural trade between the two countries and expanding market access for Indian products in Singapore.

The Minister later addressed the India-Singapore Business Forum organised by FICCI at the INSEAD Asia Campus, where he participated in a fireside chat on “India in the New Global Growth Equation: Growth and Opportunity for Businesses in Asia and the World”.

The interaction was followed by a question-and-answer session with members of the business community, providing an opportunity to discuss India's expanding role in the global growth landscape and emerging opportunities for businesses in Asia and beyond.

The day's engagements underscored the strong momentum in India-Singapore economic relations and New Delhi's intent to further strengthen trade and investment flows, technology partnerships and business-to-business linkages.

The Indian delegation at the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable included Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce Jitin Prasada.

The Singapore side comprised Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, Senior Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo, and Minister for Transport and Second Minister of State for Finance Jeffrey Siow.
