India’s automobile industry shifted into a higher gear in July, clocking its strongest-ever sales for the month as buoyant domestic demand drove double-digit growth across passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers, setting the stage for an upbeat festive season.

According to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), domestic passenger vehicle sales jumped 34.3 per cent year-on-year to 4,57,810 units in July 2026, from 3,40,772 units in the corresponding month last year.

Overall monthly production across passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers and quadricycles stood at 33,70,958 units during July 2026.

SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said the industry had recorded its strongest-ever July sales, with double-digit growth witnessed across passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers.

“The positive momentum has continued for several months,” Menon said, adding that the industry was now entering the festive season with expectations of sustained consumer demand and strong market sentiment.

The three-wheeler segment also posted a sharp 33.4 per cent growth in domestic sales, which rose to 92,560 units in July 2026 from 69,403 units a year earlier.

Within the segment, passenger carrier sales increased 32.9 per cent to 77,994 units, while goods carrier sales climbed 40.3 per cent to 12,896 units.

Electric mobility continued to register gains, with e-rickshaw sales rising 7.5 per cent to 1,132 units and e-cart sales increasing 16.2 per cent to 538 units during the month.

The two-wheeler segment emerged as another major growth driver, with domestic sales rising 22.6 per cent to 19,23,483 units in July 2026, compared with 15,69,120 units in July 2025.

Motorcycle sales grew 20.7 per cent to 10,74,796 units, while scooter sales rose 23.7 per cent to 7,98,190 units.

Moped sales recorded the fastest growth within the two-wheeler category, surging 48.6 per cent to 50,497 units during the month.

Domestic sales of quadricycles stood at four units in July.

The broad-based expansion across key automotive segments points to strengthening underlying demand in the domestic market, with the industry now looking to the upcoming festive period to sustain the momentum and build on the record July performance.
