India is set to showcase its growing semiconductor ambitions on the global stage as the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 brings together more than 600 exhibitors, 300 international companies and delegations from over 40 countries at Yashobhoomi here from September 17-19.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the three-day semiconductor and electronics conference and exhibition on September 17, marking a significant moment in India's push to build a globally competitive and resilient semiconductor ecosystem.

Organised jointly by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and SEMI, the global industry association for the semiconductor and electronics design and manufacturing ecosystem, the event will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, investors, researchers, academia, startups and students.

This year's theme, "Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem", reflects India's transition from policy formulation and project announcements towards actual manufacturing, technology development and deeper integration into the global semiconductor value chain.

Spread across 15,000 square metres, SEMICON India 2026 will feature over 600 exhibitors, including 300 international companies, and more than 150 speakers. Six country pavilions and 12 state pavilions will showcase capabilities, investment opportunities and initiatives across India's expanding electronics and semiconductor landscape.

A key attraction will be the new "Sand to Silicon to Systems" Value Chain Experience, designed to give visitors an integrated view of the semiconductor journey — from materials and manufacturing to advanced packaging, chip design, electronics and complete systems.

The exhibition will also feature a dedicated Startup Pavilion with around 40 startups, an Innovation Showcase, startup pitch competition, student hackathon and a Workforce Development Pavilion focused on skills, talent and career opportunities in microelectronics. A Women’s Forum will further spotlight participation and leadership in the sector.

The event is expected to feature leading global and Indian players, including ASML, Applied Materials, Teradyne, Infineon, Ebara, Jabil, IBM Research, NXP, Tata Electronics, Micron, Merck KGaA, Rapidus, Lam Research, CG Power, Uno Minda, Advantest and Tokyo Electron, among others.

The conference programme will focus on semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence, advanced packaging, materials and equipment, chip design, supply-chain resilience, research and development, startups, innovation and talent development.

Six international country roundtables, a session on women empowerment and leadership, a workforce development session and a special discussion on collaboration among industry associations for India's electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM) growth are also scheduled.

SEMICON India 2026 comes as the government's semiconductor strategy moves from approvals to execution. Under the Semicon India Programme, 12 semiconductor projects have been approved to establish a robust domestic ecosystem, with three projects approved under Semicon 1.0 having already commenced commercial production.

The Union Cabinet has also approved Semicon 2.0, with six major pillars aimed at accelerating semiconductor ecosystem development.

Alongside manufacturing, the government is backing chip design and research. Electronic design automation tools have been made available to more than 400 academic institutions and 105 startups, while 24 startups have been approved under the Design Linked Incentive scheme.

The opportunity is substantial. The global semiconductor market, valued at around USD 796 billion in 2025, is projected to cross USD 2 trillion by 2030. India's semiconductor demand, estimated at around USD 50 billion currently, is expected to reach nearly USD 103 billion by 2030.

With artificial intelligence, advanced computing, electric mobility and digital technologies driving chip demand worldwide, the need for diversified and trusted supply chains is also reshaping the industry.

Against this backdrop, SEMICON India 2026 is positioned not merely as an exhibition but as a platform for investment, technology partnerships, supply-chain linkages and talent development.

The event aims to reinforce India's emergence as a trusted semiconductor partner and accelerate its ambition to become a global hub for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.
