India’s textile exports registered robust growth in August 2026, rising 16.1 per cent year-on-year to Rs 29,776 crore from Rs 25,656 crore in the corresponding month last year, signalling sustained momentum in one of the country’s key manufacturing and employment-generating sectors.

During April-August 2026, cumulative textile exports stood at Rs 1.43 lakh crore, marking a 10.3 per cent increase over the corresponding period of the previous year.

The export performance in August was broad-based, with several major textile segments recording healthy growth. Exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups and handloom products increased 24.1 per cent during the month, while man-made yarn, fabrics and made-ups registered a 19.9 per cent rise.

Carpet exports grew 15 per cent in August, while handicrafts, excluding handmade carpets, emerged as a particularly strong performer, recording a 41.4 per cent increase. Ready-made garments of all textiles also maintained positive momentum, with exports rising 6.1 per cent during the month.

The cumulative performance for April-August 2026 remained encouraging across major segments. Cotton textiles grew 18 per cent, man-made textiles expanded 13.6 per cent and carpets recorded 11.9 per cent growth. Handicrafts, excluding handmade carpets, registered a particularly strong cumulative growth of 44 per cent during the period.

The sustained expansion across key segments reflects the increasing competitiveness and diversification of India’s textile export basket, supported by improved market access, policy interventions and continued efforts towards value addition and market diversification.
