On International Women in Engineering Day 2026, Vedanta
Aluminium celebrated the remarkable contributions of its women engineers who
are powering innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable growth at its
world-class operations in Jharsuguda. From potlines and power units to asset
optimization and business excellence, women professionals are playing a pivotal
role in shaping the future of manufacturing at India’s largest aluminium plant.
At Vedanta Aluminium’s advanced operations in Jharsuguda,
inclusivity is embedded across every aspect of manufacturing. This philosophy
fuels the sophisticated systems that enhance operational efficiency, the
cutting-edge technologies that improve asset reliability, and the continuous
improvement initiatives that drive business performance. At the heart of this
transformation are highly skilled women professionals whose technical
expertise, leadership, and innovative thinking are creating lasting value for
the organization.
As India’s largest producer of aluminium, Vedanta Aluminium
has consistently demonstrated that business excellence and diversity go hand in
hand. This commitment has led to several pioneering milestones at its
Jharsuguda operations, including India’s first all-women-operated potline, the
country’s first all-women power unit, and an all-women locomotive team. Within
this progressive ecosystem, women engineers are redefining what “Engineering
Intelligence” — the global theme for International Women in Engineering Day
2026 — truly means in practice.
For Mamta Bhagat, Head of Manufacturing Excellence &
Business Partner Management, Engineering Intelligence is about making complex
processes seamless and effective. Her responsibilities span inventory
optimization, audit compliance, governance enhancement, and value creation
through strategic vendor partnerships.
“Over the years, I
have been tasked with improving several critical processes that often work
behind the scenes but have a major impact on our overall performance.”
Recognized as an Emerging Leader and High Potential Leader at
Vedanta Aluminium for her outstanding contributions, Mamta champions
self-belief, resilience, and continuous learning as essential qualities for
young women aspiring to build careers in manufacturing.
Suman Pritidarshini, Head of CBM & Calibration and Deputy
Head of Asset Optimization, leverages technology and data analytics to drive
smarter decision-making. With extensive experience across maintenance,
reliability engineering, operations, and project management, she has
significantly strengthened the management of critical assets across the plant.
“One of my most
important contributions has been the implementation of real-time vibration
monitoring across more than 350 critical assets, enabling a shift from reactive
maintenance to predictive, data-driven decision-making.”
Honoured with recognitions such as Young CEO, Technical Star,
and Emerging Leader, Suman exemplifies a new generation of engineers who
combine technological innovation with strong technical expertise.
Similarly, Snigdharoopa Biswal, Head of Business Excellence,
is leading transformative initiatives focused on continuous improvement and
operational excellence. An engineer by training, she approaches challenges with
a solution-oriented mindset. Her work across Total Quality Management, Lean,
Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping, and Quality Circles has translated quality
frameworks into impactful plant-level improvements, enhancing both operational
performance and workplace culture.
Her achievements have earned her several accolades at Vedanta
Aluminium, including Technical Star and Emerging Leader. She encourages
aspiring women engineers to remain grounded in their values, embrace lifelong
learning, and never allow perceived limitations to define their ambitions.
C Chandru, CEO - Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda, said: “On
International Women in Engineering Day, we celebrate the women professionals
who are shaping the future of manufacturing with skill, resilience and fresh
thinking. We are committed to building an environment where women engineers can
lead, innovate and thrive across our operations, advancing India’s industrial
growth in a meaningful way.”
Vedanta Aluminium continues to strengthen an inclusive
workplace that enables women engineers to excel across diverse roles and
responsibilities. The company’s people-centric approach includes flexible
policies that support employees through different stages of life, extensive
learning and development opportunities, and equitable pathways for career
growth. Through these initiatives, Vedanta Aluminium is fostering a culture
where talent, capability, and performance are the true drivers of success.
The journeys of these accomplished professionals demonstrate
that Engineering Intelligence extends far beyond machines, systems, and
algorithms. It is equally rooted in judgement, perseverance, collaboration, and
the ability to envision better ways of working. As International Women in
Engineering Day 2026 honours the innovators and problem-solvers shaping the
world, Vedanta Aluminium’s women leaders stand as inspiring examples of what
can be achieved when talent is nurtured and equal opportunities are empowered.
