In line with the
global observance of World Environment Day 2026 and its focus on urgent climate
action, Jindal Steel, Angul, organized a week-long series of initiatives
dedicated to environmental sustainability. Held under the theme, “Inspired by
Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” the programmes aimed to strengthen
environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices among employees,
their families, and the wider community.
As part of the
celebrations, a “Run for Environment” rally and a mega plantation drive were
organized at Jindal Nagar Township. The rally was flagged off by Executive
Director In-charge P. K. Biju Nair in the presence of Damodar Mittal, Executive
Director, Iron Zone; Hridayeswar Jha, Executive Director, Special Projects; Swami
Satyabindu Saraswati; and other dignitaries. A large number of employees,
family members, and community residents participated enthusiastically in the
rally, which commenced from the Eden Garden area and culminated at the
designated plantation site.
Adding significance
to the occasion, Dr. Prafulla Kumar Behera, AES, State Pollution Control Board,
joined the celebrations and planted a sapling at Jindal Nagar.
Several community
engagement activities and competitions were also conducted, including drawing
and painting contests for children, along with essay-writing and quiz
competitions for spouses. Employees participated in a dedicated online quiz
designed to enhance awareness of environmental standards, sustainability
practices, and climate-related challenges.
A special workshop on
Domestic Waste Management was organized to educate residents on source
segregation through the two-bin system, home composting methods, and innovative
ways of reusing waste materials. The initiative aligns with the township’s
vision of becoming a “Zero Waste” community.
The successful culmination of the week-long programmes, marked by enthusiastic participation and the announcement of competition winners, reaffirmed Jindal Steel’s commitment to climate action, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development.
Meanwhile, Jindal Foundation also celebrated World Environment Day across Derjang, Malibrahmani, and OPJCC. As part of the initiative, seed kits were distributed among students and farmers to promote gardening, sustainable food production, and nutrition-focused backyard farming. A plantation drive was also organized at Derjang with active participation from the local community.
