Celebrating the enduring legacy of visionary industrialist
and nation-builder O.P. Jindal (Bauji), Jindal Steel Angul commemorated his
96th birth anniversary with a series of meaningful social welfare initiatives,
inspiring tributes and the grand inauguration of the O.P. Jindal Football
Tournament 2026. The occasion reflected Bauji’s unwavering commitment to
industrial excellence, community development and nation-building, bringing
together company leaders, dignitaries, employees and local community
representatives to honour the values and vision that continue to guide the
organisation.
Addressing the gathering, Jindal Steel Managing Director V.
R. Sharma paid rich tributes to O.P. Jindal’s extraordinary contribution to
India's steel industry and his pioneering entrepreneurial spirit. He recalled
how Bauji began his journey with a pipe-making unit and transformed it into one
of India's leading steel enterprises, while inspiring successive generations of
his family to carry forward his vision of industrial growth and national
development.
“Bauji’s journey is a
remarkable chapter in India’s industrial history. From a modest beginning in
pipe manufacturing, he built a steel enterprise with a strong focus on
nation-building and employment generation,” Sharma said.
Highlighting the phenomenal growth of the group, Sharma said
that the O.P. Jindal Group today produces more than 50 million tonnes of steel
and provides employment to around two million people in India and abroad,
underscoring the far-reaching impact of Bauji’s vision on the nation's economy
and livelihoods.
The Executive Director, Iron Zone, Jindal Steel Angul, who
began his professional journey under the guidance of O.P. Jindal, shared
heartfelt memories of working with the legendary industrialist. He spoke about
Bauji’s unwavering belief in a self-reliant India driven by the effective
utilisation of indigenous resources and the production of world-class quality
steel.
“Bauji believed that
industrial growth must go hand in hand with the development of local
communities. We are committed to carrying forward his vision and values through
our work,” he said.
The commemorative programme was attended by Executive
Director and Location Head, Angul, P. K. Biju Nair; Executive Director, Special
Projects, Hridayswar Jha; Yoga Guru Swami Satyabindu Saraswati; along with
other distinguished guests and community representatives. The dignitaries
reaffirmed their commitment to uphold O.P. Jindal’s ideals and contribute
towards realising his vision of a stronger and more prosperous India.
Adding sporting fervour to the celebrations, the O.P. Jindal
Football Tournament 2026 was inaugurated in Angul. The tournament has brought
together twelve teams from across Odisha, providing a vibrant platform to
promote sportsmanship and nurture football talent in the state. Dr. Sanjay
Swain, Regional Chief Conservator of Forests (RCCF), inaugurated the tournament
in the presence of Akshay Seth, District Sports Officer, Angul. Khirod Kumar
Barik, Vice-President, HR & ES, and Jayant Mohanty, GM-CSR, along with
several other dignitaries, were present during the inaugural ceremony. The
tournament will culminate with the grand final on August 18, 2026.
Reflecting O.P. Jindal’s lifelong commitment to social welfare and inclusive development, Jindal Foundation organised a series of humanitarian initiatives as part of the anniversary celebrations. Dry ration was distributed to elderly care homes, destitute women’s care homes and institutions for visually impaired persons, while cattle feed was provided to several gaushalas across Angul district, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to serving vulnerable sections of society.
The celebrations extended across various institutions associated with the Jindal family, including O.P. Jindal School, DAV Savitri Jindal School, Naveen Jindal Skill Centre, Shramveen Palace and several other locations. A range of commemorative programmes was organised to honour the life, vision and enduring legacy of O.P. Jindal, whose ideals of entrepreneurship, social responsibility and nation-building continue to inspire generations.
