Even as large parts of Odisha grappled with severe flooding,
Reliance Jio undertook extensive round-the-clock restoration measures to
maintain telecom services and ensure uninterrupted connectivity for millions of
subscribers across the affected districts.
With communication playing a critical role during natural
disasters, Jio activated its emergency response mechanism immediately after the
floods. Field teams carried out rapid site assessments to evaluate tower
conditions, site accessibility, power availability and transmission link
status. Based on the assessment, critical network sites were identified and
prioritised for immediate restoration.
To facilitate access to affected locations, the Jio Odisha
team worked in close coordination with the local administration and disaster
response agencies. Restoration teams used tractors, boats and other suitable
vehicles to reach sites cut off by floodwaters, while efforts were made to
clear blocked roads and ensure safe movement of personnel and equipment.
The company also strengthened power backup arrangements to
keep telecom towers operational. Portable diesel generator (DG) sets were
deployed, existing generators were refuelled, damaged batteries were replaced,
and commercial power supply was restored at the earliest wherever feasible.
Additional vehicles were pressed into service for timely DG refuelling, while
technical teams from other Cluster Maintenance Points (CMPs) were mobilised to
accelerate restoration work.
To minimise service disruptions, Jio deployed technicians
equipped with essential spare parts, tools, cables and transmission equipment.
Local manpower was also engaged wherever required to speed up restoration
activities in the flood-hit areas.
According to the company, its teams maintained 24×7 operational readiness and ensured network continuity across the worst-affected districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Balangir and Jajpur through swift restoration and continuous monitoring.
As part of its emergency response, Jio established dedicated War Rooms at the Circle and Cluster Maintenance Point (CMP) levels to monitor network status, coordinate restoration activities and enable faster decision-making. Its 24×7 Network Operations Centre (NOC) remained in constant touch with field teams, vendors and local authorities, providing real-time updates and overseeing restoration efforts until all affected sites were brought back to normal operations.
