Kesinga Railway
Station in Odisha's Kalahandi district has undergone a remarkable
transformation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, emerging as a modern,
accessible and passenger-centric railway station. Redeveloped at an approximate
cost of ₹22 crore, the station now offers
significantly upgraded infrastructure and world-class
passenger amenities, reinforcing its role as a vital rail gateway to western
Odisha.
The comprehensive
redevelopment has substantially enhanced both passenger convenience and
operational efficiency. Key infrastructure upgrades include modernization of
the existing station building, development of a new second entry to facilitate
smoother passenger movement, construction of a 12-metre-wide Foot Over Bridge
equipped with three lifts to ensure barrier-free access, improvement of
platform surfaces and platform shelters, widening of approach roads, creation
of dedicated pedestrian pathways, and installation of a modern drainage system.
Passenger facilities have also been significantly upgraded with improved
toilets, a retiring room and a dormitory, providing greater comfort and
convenience for travellers.
Designed with
inclusivity at its core, the redeveloped station caters to the needs of all
passengers, including senior citizens, Divyangjan and families with children. Enhanced
circulation areas, improved accessibility and thoughtfully designed public
spaces have created a safer, more convenient and user-friendly travel
environment for everyone.
Established in 1931,
Kesinga Railway Station has been an important railway station on the
Raipur–Vizianagaram line of East Coast Railway, serving as a crucial
transportation link for Kalahandi and the surrounding region. Over the decades,
it has connected the district with major cities across Odisha and neighbouring
states, facilitating passenger mobility while supporting trade, commerce and
regional economic development.
The station's modern
transformation is expected to further strengthen regional connectivity and
support the growing aspirations of western Odisha. Improved railway
infrastructure will benefit residents, students, farmers, traders and visitors
alike by enabling smoother travel, promoting commercial activities and
contributing to the continued growth of Kalahandi's agriculture, business and
tourism sectors.
Kalahandi is renowned for its rich tribal heritage, vibrant cultural traditions and exceptional craftsmanship. The district enjoys international recognition for the energetic Ghumura dance and is equally celebrated for its exquisite handloom and handicrafts, colourful festivals and unique cultural identity. The redeveloped Kesinga Railway Station now serves as a fitting gateway to this culturally vibrant region, welcoming visitors with modern facilities and an enhanced travel experience.
Kesinga Railway Station is among the 57 railway stations in Odisha being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and is one of the stations being dedicated to the nation by the Hon'ble Prime Minister. Its transformation reflects the steadfast commitment of Indian Railways and East Coast Railway to developing modern, inclusive and future-ready railway stations that seamlessly combine superior passenger amenities, universal accessibility, operational excellence and sustainable infrastructure, while contributing to the holistic growth and development of the region.
