Meghalaya has emerged as a
national frontrunner in technology-driven governance, winning three prestigious
awards at the 6th Digital Transformation Summit and Awards for excellence in
geospatial technology, public service delivery and digital health services. The
recognitions underline the state’s transformative journey under the leadership
of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive,
data-led and citizen-centric governance.
The awards celebrate Meghalaya’s
innovative initiatives spanning urban development, infrastructure planning,
citizen services and public health, positioning the state as a model for
leveraging technology to improve governance outcomes. The honours were
conferred in recognition of initiatives that have not only modernised
administrative processes but also delivered measurable social impact on the
ground.
Under the Planning, Investment
Promotion and Sustainable Development Department, Meghalaya ONE was recognised
for its innovative use of digital technology in enhancing public service
delivery. The unified digital platform has streamlined citizen access to
government schemes, services and grievance redressal through a single
interface, available via web-based systems, physical service centres and a
network of village data volunteers, significantly strengthening last-mile
service delivery.
The Meghalaya State GIS and UAV
Centre, operating under the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority and the
Planning, Investment Promotion and Sustainable Development Department, received
the Award of Excellence for the use of geospatial technologies in
transportation, urban development and allied projects. Its flagship Meghalaya
State Geo Portal, also known as the Meghalaya State GeoHub, integrates
AI-powered analytics and real-time data to support informed decision-making.
The platform enables tracking of critical indicators such as deforestation,
weather forecasting and water budgeting, reinforcing evidence-based planning
and sustainable development.
In the public health domain,
the National Health Mission under the Health Department, Government of
Meghalaya, was honoured for innovative digital health services and public
health data analytics. The Award of Excellence was conferred for the MOTHER app,
a pioneering digital initiative that has contributed to a nearly 60 percent
reduction in maternal deaths and a 34 percent decline in the Infant Mortality
Rate between 2020 and 2025. The achievement highlights the power of real-time
data in driving accountability, proactive interventions and improved health
outcomes.
The award ceremony was
organised by Governance Now, a
leading publication focused on public policy and governance, bringing national
recognition to Meghalaya’s holistic and future-ready approach to digital
transformation.
