The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has
joined as a co-sponsor of the MahaBharat International Trade Expo, a major
trade and cultural showcase being held from February 14 to 23 at the MMRDA
Grounds, Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. The event is being jointly organised
by the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Industries and
MIDC.
As part of its participation, NABARD is supporting 30 stalls representing
artisans and producers from across the country, highlighting India’s rich rural
craftsmanship and traditional knowledge systems. The stalls, numbered 66 to 96,
present a wide spectrum of handlooms, handicrafts and Geographical Indication
(GI) products, offering visitors a vibrant glimpse into the nation’s diverse
cultural heritage.
Among the products on display are Ghazipur wall hangings, Kantha stitch
textiles, Kashmiri Pashmina creations, Kodhpuri Bandhej craft, Udaipur
handicrafts, Koftgari metal work, Kolhapuri chappals, Gorakhpur terracotta,
Narayanpet handloom sarees, Pochampally Ikat fabrics, Banarasi sarees, Warli
paintings and Mirzapur handmade durries and carpets. The exhibition provides a
unique platform for rural artisans to access urban markets, expand their
customer base and enhance their livelihoods.
By facilitating market linkages through such national platforms, NABARD continues to strengthen its commitment to promoting sustainable rural enterprises and preserving traditional art forms.
