The Centre on Tuesday said there is no proposal to establish
a Bulk Drug Park in Odisha under the government's scheme for Promotion of Bulk
Drug Parks, Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme or any other Central
scheme of the Department of Pharmaceuticals.

Patel said this in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
The Scheme for Promotion of Bulk Drug Parks was approved by
the Cabinet on March 20, 2020, to facilitate the setting up of three Bulk Drug
Parks in the country.
The scheme seeks to bring down the cost of manufacturing bulk
drugs by creating world-class common infrastructure facilities and promoting
economies of scale in their production.
The Department of Pharmaceuticals had received proposals from
13 states under the scheme. After evaluation, proposals from Gujarat, Himachal
Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh were approved for the establishment of Bulk Drug
Parks.
The government’s response makes it clear that Odisha is not
among the states selected for a Bulk Drug Park under the existing Central
initiatives of the Department of Pharmaceuticals.
The Bulk Drug Parks scheme is aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing of bulk drugs by providing common infrastructure and reducing production costs, thereby supporting a more competitive pharmaceutical industry.
The Centre's clarification comes as the government continues to promote domestic production of critical pharmaceutical inputs and reduce dependence on imports.
