NTPC Bongaigaon celebrated National Sports Day 2026 on Saturday with a vibrant array of sporting activities, bringing together employees, their families, township residents and local youth in a spirited display of fitness, teamwork and community participation.

Organised by the NTPC Bongaigaon Sports Council, the celebrations featured an Athletics Meet comprising track races and field events such as long jump and high jump, besides cycling and swimming competitions. Residents of the NTPC Bongaigaon Township across different age groups participated enthusiastically in the events.

The programme began with floral tributes to legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, whose birth anniversary is observed as National Sports Day. NTPC Bongaigaon GM (O&M) Anurag Gupta and Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club president Kasturi Maitra paid their tributes to the sporting icon.

Speaking on the occasion, Gupta underlined the importance of making sports and physical fitness an integral part of everyday life. Recalling the sporting legacy of Major Dhyan Chand, he said National Sports Day offers an opportunity to inspire people across generations to adopt an active lifestyle.

Gupta appreciated the enthusiastic participation of employees, family members, township residents and local youth, and said sports play an important role in fostering discipline, teamwork and resilience while strengthening the sense of community.

The celebrations were attended by Sports Council president Bonthu Balaji, general secretary Souvik Sen and DGM (HR) Debaleena Das, besides employees, family members and sports enthusiasts.

Adding a distinct Kokrajhar flavour to the celebrations, a football match between local youth and the “Power Warriors” was also organised. The Power Warriors are supported by NTPC Bongaigaon under its CSR initiative in association with the Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA).

The football initiative provided a platform for local talent to showcase their skills while reinforcing NTPC Bongaigaon’s efforts to promote sports and youth development in neighbouring communities through its CSR interventions.

From the athletics track and swimming pool to the cycling route and football field, National Sports Day at NTPC Bongaigaon brought the township and neighbouring communities together in a shared celebration of sporting enthusiasm, fitness and participation.
