NTPC Bongaigaon marked World No
Tobacco Day with a comprehensive series of awareness and outreach initiatives
aimed at promoting a tobacco-free lifestyle among employees, contract workers,
healthcare personnel, and security forces, reaffirming its commitment to
workplace wellness and preventive healthcare.
The observance began with a
Tobacco-Free Pledge Ceremony led by Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC
Bongaigaon, followed by a signature campaign at the Administrative Building.
The campaign was subsequently extended to the Plant Service Building, where
Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M) administered the pledge and spearheaded another
signature drive. Employees and Heads of Departments participated enthusiastically,
reaffirming their collective commitment to fostering a tobacco-free workplace
and contributing to a healthier society.
As part of the awareness programmes,
doctors from the Medical Department sensitized participants about the harmful
effects of tobacco consumption, the serious health risks associated with
nicotine addiction, and practical strategies for quitting tobacco use. A
similar pledge-taking and signature campaign was also organized at U.N. Brahma
Hospital under the leadership of Dr. Deepayan Paul, Chief Medical Officer, NTPC
Bongaigaon, highlighting the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle choices
and preventive healthcare practices.
Extending the outreach beyond
employees, NTPC Bongaigaon organized an interactive awareness session for
contract workers to educate them about the dangers of tobacco use and the
benefits of cessation. The programme witnessed the participation of more than
70 workers and was conducted by Dr. Deepayan Paul, CMO and ENT Specialist, who
addressed various tobacco-related health concerns and encouraged participants
to embrace healthier habits for long-term well-being.
In another significant initiative, a
dedicated awareness programme was conducted for CISF personnel deployed at NTPC
Bongaigaon. More than 50 CISF personnel attended the session, which was
delivered by Dr. Rakesh Anand, Physician, who elaborated on the adverse health
impacts of tobacco consumption and underscored the importance of early
intervention, prevention, and timely cessation.
Through these extensive awareness and
engagement activities, NTPC Bongaigaon once again demonstrated its unwavering
commitment to promoting health, well-being, and preventive healthcare awareness
among its employees, associates, and stakeholders, while contributing
meaningfully to the global movement towards a tobacco-free future.
