NTPC Bongaigaon on
Tuesday conducted a major joint disaster management mock drill involving the
NDRF, SDRF, CISF, local police and NTPC Hospital, putting multi-agency search,
rescue, evacuation and medical response capabilities to a rigorous test.
The exercise
simulated high-risk emergency situations, including an earthquake-triggered
building collapse and two drowning incidents, to assess the preparedness,
coordination and response mechanisms of the participating agencies.
Conducted under the
guidance of NTPC Bongaigaon General Manager (O&M) Anurag Gupta and under
the supervision of CISF Commandant L.N. Meitei, the drill brought together
personnel from NTPC management, the CISF Fire Wing and Security Wing, besides
specialised response teams from the NDRF and SDRF.
In the first
scenario, the New Service Building was presumed to have collapsed following an
earthquake, with seven people trapped inside the structure. Rescue teams
swiftly launched a coordinated search and rescue operation, locating all the
trapped casualties and evacuating them from the affected area.
The rescued persons
were subsequently handed over to the NTPC medical team, which carried out first
aid and initiated further medical management, demonstrating the importance of
seamless coordination between rescue and healthcare teams during disaster
situations.
The second scenario
tested the response to water-related emergencies, with one casualty shown
trapped in a flood-like situation and another involved in a pond-drowning
incident. The rescue teams demonstrated prompt search and water-rescue
operations before safely evacuating the casualties.
The exercise focused
not only on rescue operations but also on communication, coordination,
evacuation procedures, first aid and casualty management, enabling the
participating agencies to evaluate their preparedness and identify areas
requiring further strengthening.
As many as 117 personnel participated in the drill, including 24 from the NDRF, nine from the SDRF, six from NTPC Hospital, 28 from NTPC management, 28 from the CISF Fire Wing and 22 from the CISF Security Wing, along with representatives of the local police.
The successful completion of the exercise underscored the importance of coordinated inter-agency response in dealing with disasters and emergencies, while reinforcing NTPC Bongaigaon's preparedness to respond effectively to crisis situations.
