Reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and wildlife conservation, NTPC Northern Region Headquarters (NRHQ) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden, Lucknow, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The agreement, signed on Tuesday, aims to promote ecological balance, strengthen animal welfare measures, and enhance visitor amenities at the zoo.

The MoA was formally exchanged between Sanjay Kumar Biswal, Director of the Zoological Garden, and Rahul Sharma, AGM (HR), NTPC NRHQ, in the presence of S. N. Panigrahi, CGM (HR), NTPC NRHQ, Dinesh Badola, Ranger, Lucknow Zoo, and other officials.

As part of the initiative, NTPC NRHQ will provide financial assistance for the adoption of four lions and three Royal Bengal tigers. The support will also include the installation of two multi-tap water facility systems within the zoo premises, aimed at improving water access and overall convenience for visitors while supporting better habitat management.

The latest collaboration builds on NTPC NRHQ’s ongoing association with the Lucknow Zoo. In the previous financial year, the organisation had adopted a white tigress and a giraffe, contributing towards their care and upkeep. NTPC NRHQ had also supported the zoo through the provision of a battery-operated vehicle to facilitate easier movement for senior citizens and visitors, development of an entry plaza as a dedicated rest area, and procurement of an immobilization gun along with necessary supporting equipment for animal management.

Officials said the partnership reflects NTPC NRHQ’s sustained focus on responsible corporate citizenship and long-term environmental stewardship. By supporting wildlife conservation and improving public infrastructure at the zoo, the organisation continues to align its CSR efforts with broader goals of biodiversity protection and community welfare.

The initiative underscores NTPC NRHQ’s resolve to contribute meaningfully to conservation efforts while fostering awareness about environmental sustainability among the public.
