NTPC Talcher Thermal
has stepped up its community welfare initiatives, healthcare awareness
programmes and cultural activities, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive
regional development and employee well-being, the power major said.
As part of its
corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, three newly constructed
Anganwadi centres were inaugurated in project-affected villages on Tuesday by
NTPC Talcher Thermal Executive Director Vijay Chand. The centres, one at Padia
Bhanga and two at Lingrakata, have been developed under the Integrated Child
Development Services (ICDS) framework to strengthen early childhood education,
healthcare and nutritional support.
Equipped with modern
learning aids and recreational facilities, the centres are expected to provide
an engaging learning environment for young children while improving access to
essential services for infants, children and expectant mothers in the surrounding
communities.
Senior NTPC
officials, including General Managers Om Prakash Solanki and Rakesh Kumar, and
Additional General Managers D S Kumar and Ravi Shekhar, attended the
inauguration alongside village residents.
Addressing the
gathering, Chand reiterated NTPC Talcher Thermal's commitment to holistic child
development and sustained community engagement through CSR interventions.
In another welfare
initiative, the Sagarika Ladies Club, the women's wing of the station, observed
Gandhi Jayanti by visiting Adruta Children's Home earlier this month. Led by
club president Vibha Agrawal, members interacted with children, distributed
essential daily-use items and encouraged them to pursue their aspirations with
confidence and determination.
Healthcare awareness
also received a boost through Ashalok Hospital's 'Ahwahan' initiative, which
organised an interactive session on adult oncology. Dr Srigopal Mohanty, senior
medical oncologist at Panda Cancer Hospital, Cuttack, highlighted the
importance of early screening, timely medical consultation and preventive
lifestyle practices.
The NTPC township
also witnessed a series of cultural and sporting events aimed at fostering
camaraderie among employees and their families. Durga Puja celebrations,
organised by the Spectrum Club and the Employee Welfare Association, featured
traditional rituals and vibrant Garba performances, followed by Dussehra
festivities that included a ceremonial Ravan
Dahan and fireworks display led by Chand.
On the sporting
front, the annual inter-departmental football tournament concluded on October
9, with Electrical Power Football Club defeating Services Thunder Football Club
2-0 in the final. Solanki presented the championship trophy to the winning
team.
NTPC Talcher Thermal
also recorded achievements in quality improvement and environmental
stewardship. Its Quality Circle team 'Niyatrana', guided by Deputy Manager (HR)
Saraswati Behera, won a Gold Award at the 39th Quality Circle Forum of India
(QCFI) Kolkata Chapter convention for addressing logistical bottlenecks during
the GEM 2026 programme.
The station also
marked the conclusion of Hindi Pakhwada, recognising employees' literary
contributions, and organised a green initiative under which saplings were
planted to commemorate employee birthdays.
These initiatives followed a high-level coordination meeting between Chand and DIG of Police (NCR, Talcher) Ashish Kumar Singh, during which administrative coordination and progress on the proposed Talcher Thermal Stage-III expansion were reviewed.
The series of initiatives reflects NTPC Talcher Thermal's efforts to complement its energy-generation responsibilities with community development, employee engagement, environmental awareness and support for the region's long-term social and industrial growth.
