Odisha Chief Minister
Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday launched 53 industrial projects involving
investments of Rs 39,383 crore across 14 districts, with the potential to
generate employment for around 42,000 people, as the state steps up efforts to
establish itself as a major manufacturing hub in India and globally, an
official statement said.
The projects,
involving 46 companies, were launched at a groundbreaking and inauguration
ceremony in the Kalinganagar industrial belt of Jajpur district in the presence
of Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain and industry representatives.
The investments are
spread across Angul, Bargarh, Balasore, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur,
Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Sambalpur and Sundargarh
districts, reflecting the state's push to broaden industrial development beyond
established manufacturing centres.
The projects span a
diverse range of sectors, including steel and metals, chemicals, renewable
energy, food processing, biofuels, textiles and apparel, electronics and IT
services, logistics, tourism, hospitality, industrial gases, infrastructure,
shipbuilding, energy storage, healthcare, rubber and plastics, and circular
economy initiatives.
Majhi said the
investments would strengthen Odisha's industrial ecosystem, expand
manufacturing capabilities and create fresh employment opportunities,
particularly for young people and skilled and semi-skilled workers.
He said the projects
would also promote value addition within the state and open up business
opportunities for local suppliers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs)
and entrepreneurs, helping create a broader industrial base and strengthen
linkages between large industries and local businesses.
Describing the
investments as a significant step towards building a self-reliant and
prosperous Odisha, the chief minister said the state was working to emerge as a
major manufacturing destination both nationally and internationally.
Taking a swipe at the previous BJD government, Majhi said his government had so far launched 116 industrial projects and inaugurated another 35, taking the total number of projects to 151.
These projects represent cumulative investments of Rs 3,11,722.46 crore and are expected to generate around 2,40,697 employment opportunities, the statement said.
