Odisha is positioning itself to become India's leading clean energy and green manufacturing hub, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said on Thursday, outlining an ambitious roadmap that includes adding nearly 11 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, attracting massive investments, and building a world-class green hydrogen ecosystem.

Addressing the 7th CII International Energy Conference & Exhibition 2026 at Hotel Le Meridien in New Delhi, Singh Deo, who also holds the Energy portfolio, said Odisha is prepared to play a pivotal role in India's energy transition through secure, affordable and sustainable growth. He said the State is leveraging its strategic advantages, including a 575-km coastline, deep-water ports, abundant mineral resources and a strong industrial base, to emerge as a major clean energy destination.

The conference, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), focused on the themes "Empowering India’s Energy Future: Secure, Smart & Sustainable" and "Transitioning with Energy Security – The New Global Order".

The inaugural session was attended by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, Bhutan's Energy Minister Lyonpo Gem Tshering and Sri Lankan Energy Minister Anura Karunathilake. The event also witnessed the release of the CII-EY report on India's energy security.

Highlighting Odisha's alignment with India's target of achieving 60% non-fossil fuel capacity by 2035 and Net Zero emissions by 2070, Singh Deo said the State has substantially enhanced its renewable energy ambitions by targeting nearly 11 GW of clean energy capacity by 2030.

He said the government has already cleared major clean energy projects after recently securing investment proposals worth ₹67,000 crore for over 6.7 GW of solar, wind, hydro, pumped storage and hybrid energy projects.

The Deputy Chief Minister said Odisha is also modernising its power infrastructure through digital substations, smart grid technologies and AI-enabled asset management systems to facilitate seamless integration of large-scale renewable energy into the grid while improving efficiency and reliability.

Emphasising Odisha's long-term vision, Singh Deo said the State plans to harness its coastline, port infrastructure and mineral wealth to provide round-the-clock renewable power and green hydrogen for decarbonising energy-intensive sectors such as steel, aluminium, mining and maritime transport. He said the initiative is aimed at establishing Odisha as South-East Asia's premier Green Hydrogen hub.

He also stressed that the State's clean energy transition would be inclusive, with initiatives such as the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, decentralised solar projects and green mobility programmes helping reduce household energy costs, generate local employment and strengthen MSMEs.

Inviting global technology providers, manufacturers and financial institutions to invest in Odisha, Singh Deo assured them of a stable policy framework and streamlined, investor-friendly clearance mechanisms.

Reaffirming the vision of Viksit Odisha 2036 and Viksit Bharat 2047, he said Odisha is ready to emerge as a key state driving India's next phase of energy transition.

Additional Chief Secretary, Energy, Vishal Kumar Dev, and other senior officials of the Energy Department were also present at the conference.
