Odisha is set to get its second semiconductor manufacturing unit with the Unit Approval Committee (UAC) approving SiCSem Private Limited’s proposal to set up a high-technology facility at IDCO Infovalley-II in Khordha district, an official statement said on Monday.

The approval was granted at the 217th meeting of the UAC for establishing the unit at Arisol Mouza under Jatni Tahasil, within the jurisdiction of Falta Special Economic Zone (FSEZ).

The project, involving an investment of Rs 3,406.25 crore, is expected to generate employment for around 1,270 people and further strengthen Odisha’s emerging semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.

Spread over 21.889 acres, the proposed facility will manufacture Silicon Carbide (SiC) semiconductor devices, including SiC Diodes and SiC MOSFETs, catering to the growing demand for advanced semiconductor technologies.

The unit is envisaged to have an annual production capacity of 4.8 million SiC Diodes and 91.2 million SiC MOSFETs.

The project is expected to contribute significantly to India’s domestic semiconductor capabilities in a critical high-technology sector while strengthening the country’s export-oriented manufacturing base.

According to the proposal, the unit is projected to generate an export turnover of Rs 7,043 crore over the next five years and achieve net foreign exchange (NFE) earnings of around Rs 4,523 crore during the period.

The approval is also expected to highlight the role of the Special Economic Zone framework in attracting capital-intensive and technology-driven investments with substantial employment and export potential.

The SiCSem project adds further momentum to Odisha’s efforts to emerge as a destination for semiconductor and advanced technology manufacturing, while reinforcing the role of Falta Special Economic Zone in facilitating high-value investments and promoting export-oriented industrial development.

With the addition of the SiCSem facility, Odisha’s semiconductor ambitions are set to gain further traction, positioning the state as an increasingly important hub for next-generation electronics and advanced manufacturing.
