“Odisha has made significant strides in enhancing its power sector with a focus on sustainable and secure energy future,” said Australian Consul General in Kolkata Bernard Lynch during his courtesy call on Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
The meeting
underscored growing international interest in Odisha’s rapid progress across
key sectors, particularly renewable energy and agriculture. Lynch appreciated
the proactive steps taken by the state government, noting that Odisha has
surpassed the national average growth rate in agriculture while simultaneously
strengthening its power infrastructure through the adoption of advanced
technologies. He highlighted that these efforts have significantly enhanced the
state’s power generation and transmission capacity, positioning Odisha as a
forward-looking player in India’s energy transition.
During the
discussion, Singh Deo emphasized that Odisha has recently rolled out several
initiatives focused on boosting renewable energy usage and production, backed by
well-defined policy frameworks. He noted that the state is leveraging its rich
natural resources to accelerate clean energy development, which is expected to
further strengthen its energy security and sustainability goals.
The Deputy Chief Minister also pointed out the remarkable performance of the agriculture sector, stating that consistent bumper production is helping multiply farmers’ income and setting new benchmarks for growth. He expressed confidence that the engagement with Australia would open new avenues for collaboration in clean energy, technology, and agricultural innovation.
The interaction is seen as a significant step toward deepening Australia-India-Odisha ties, with a shared vision of advancing sustainable development and contributing to the broader goal of a “Viksit Odisha for Viksit Bharat.”
