In a significant push to strengthen India's clean energy
transition through inter-state collaboration, the Energy Department of the
Government of Odisha and the New and Renewable Energy Department of the
Government of Madhya Pradesh (MPNRED) on Friday signed a landmark Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) on the sidelines of the 7th CII International Energy
Conference & Exhibition, which concluded successfully in New Delhi. The
strategic pact aims to deepen cooperation in renewable energy, energy
efficiency, technology transfer, collaborative research and policy exchange,
creating a robust framework for accelerating sustainable energy development
across both states.
"This historic partnership marks a monumental milestone
in strengthening regional cooperation for clean energy transition. By uniting
the strategic vision and resources of Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, we are setting
a strong benchmark for sustainable development, innovation and resilient energy
infrastructure that will accelerate India's green growth trajectory,"
Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said after the signing of
the agreement.
The agreement, signed between the Energy Department,
Government of Odisha, and the New and Renewable Energy Department, Government
of Madhya Pradesh (MPNRED), is aimed at creating a robust framework for
long-term cooperation in renewable energy development, energy efficiency and
conservation. The partnership is expected to significantly deepen inter-state
collaboration through technology transfer, joint research and development
initiatives, policy exchange and institutional knowledge sharing, reinforcing
India's clean energy ambitions.
The MoU is being viewed as a significant step towards
strengthening India's energy transition agenda by leveraging the complementary
strengths of the two states. While Odisha is rapidly emerging as a major
industrial and energy hub with growing demand for clean power, Madhya Pradesh
has established itself as one of the country's leading renewable energy
destinations with large-scale solar and wind installations. Together, the
states aim to create a scalable model for cooperative clean energy development.
As part of the agreement, both governments will jointly
promote the development of solar, wind and hybrid renewable energy projects to
meet rising regional energy requirements. The partnership also envisages
dedicated technical exchange mechanisms for sharing best practices in policy
formulation, regulatory frameworks and grid integration strategies. In
addition, the two states will collaborate on research and innovation in
emerging technologies such as energy storage systems and green hydrogen,
sectors expected to play a pivotal role in India's decarbonisation roadmap.
Officials said the collaboration is designed to accelerate the deployment of clean technologies by combining Odisha's expanding industrial ecosystem with Madhya Pradesh's extensive renewable energy infrastructure. The synergy is expected to reduce technology deployment costs, enhance grid reliability, improve energy efficiency and create new opportunities for sustainable investments and economic growth.
The 7th CII International Energy Conference & Exhibition brought together policymakers, industry leaders, technology providers and energy experts to deliberate on strategies for advancing India's energy security and accelerating the country's transition towards a low-carbon economy.
