BHUBANESWAR, APRIL 4, 2026

Bhubaneswar marked a proud moment in India’s sporting journey as Odisha’s Minister of Sports & Youth Services Suryabanshi Suraj formally presented the ceremonial World Athletics Indoor Championships 2028 flag to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at Kalinga Stadium, signalling the state’s readiness to host one of the world’s premier track and field events.

The flag, symbolising the official transfer of hosting rights, was earlier received in Poland by Ravinder Choudhry of the Athletics Federation of India along with Sports Secretary Bhupendra Singh Poonia, following the formal announcement by Sebastian Coe during the World Athletics Council meeting in Toruń.

Calling the occasion “more than an event — it is a moment of legacy,” Majhi said the flag represents ambition, pride, and India’s growing confidence to host global sporting spectacles. Scheduled for March 2028 at the state-of-the-art Kalinga Indoor Stadium, the championship will be the first time India hosts a senior global athletics event of this scale, reinforcing Odisha’s emergence as a leading destination for international sports and world-class infrastructure.
