Odisha
is set to get its first shipbuilding factory in Kendrapada district, with
Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain announcing the ambitious project as a
landmark step towards transforming the state into a major maritime
manufacturing hub.
The
shipbuilding facility will be established through an agreement between the
Odisha government and Paradip Port Authority and is expected to create
significant employment opportunities, particularly for local youth.
According
to Swain, nearly Rs 24,700 crore will be invested in the proposed shipbuilding
cluster, making it one of the largest industrial ventures planned in the state.
Preliminary
surveys have already commenced in Badatubi, Sanatubi and Nipania villages to
assess land availability and infrastructure requirements for the project.
“This shipbuilding unit will not only
strengthen Odisha’s industrial base but also create thousands of jobs for local
youth,” Swain said.
The project is envisioned as a flagship industrial initiative aimed at leveraging Odisha’s strategic maritime location and port infrastructure to establish the state as a hub for shipbuilding, maritime manufacturing and global trade.
The proposed cluster is also expected to give a major boost to ancillary industries and related services, while opening up new avenues for investment and skilled employment in the region.
