The TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) has achieved a major milestone under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with more than 6,300 consumers across Northern Odisha recording zero-unit electricity bills in the latest billing cycle.

The flagship rooftop solar initiative is delivering substantial savings to households, particularly during the peak summer season, as TPNODL accelerates installations under the Utility Led Aggregation (ULA) model. The scheme has witnessed remarkable traction, especially in rural areas, helping consumers significantly reduce their monthly electricity expenses while promoting clean energy adoption.

According to TPNODL, as many as 6,302 consumers received zero electricity bills in the previous month. Additionally, over half of all billed consumers reported a sharp decline in their monthly power charges.

So far, TPNODL has facilitated the installation of more than 47 MW of rooftop solar capacity across its operational area, benefiting over 22,000 consumers under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and the ULA model. District-wise, the adoption has been strongest in Balasore (8,127 consumers), followed by Mayurbhanj (4,676), Jajpur (3,573), Keonjhar (2,900), and Bhadrak (2,751).

Of the total beneficiaries, more than 11,500 consumers have availed themselves of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, while another 10,500 have adopted rooftop solar through the ULA model across the five districts.

The scheme's transformative impact is evident from consumer experiences. Rambhamani Sethi of Dhamnagar in Bhadrak, who installed a 1 kW rooftop solar system two months ago, has received zero-unit bills for two consecutive months. She said the savings have provided valuable financial relief to her family.

Similarly, Sabita Paley from Ghatgaon in Keonjhar, after installing a 3 kW rooftop solar system, saw her monthly electricity bill plunge from ₹1,200–₹1,500 to just ₹150–₹200.

TPNODL continues to drive awareness about the financial and environmental benefits of rooftop solar adoption, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy and enhanced energy security across Northern Odisha.
