pledge, street play and tree plantation drive reinforce collective
responsibility for cleanliness and environmental protection

Reinforcing its
commitment to cleanliness, environmental sustainability and community
participation, Paradip Port Authority (PPA) is observing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 with a series of awareness and
action-oriented initiatives across the Port and township areas. The campaign
brings together PPA officers and employees, CISF personnel, Port users and
other stakeholders to promote cleanliness, responsible waste management,
environmental conservation and sustainable practices as a shared
responsibility.
Under the overall
leadership and guidance of Susanta Kumar Purohit, Chairperson, Paradip Port
Authority, PPA is coordinating and implementing a range of activities under SHS
2026 with the active participation of its employees and stakeholders.
As part of the
campaign, a Swachhata Pledge ceremony was organised at the Portico of the PPA
Administrative Building. Shri T. Venu Gopal, Deputy Chairperson, Paradip Port
Authority, administered the pledge to Heads of Departments, senior officers and
CISF personnel. Capt. Alekha Charan Sahoo, Deputy Conservator, and Krishna Bapi
Raju, Secretary, along with HODs, officers and CISF personnel, participated in
the ceremony and reaffirmed their collective commitment to cleanliness, hygiene
and environmental sustainability.
Speaking on the
occasion, the Deputy Chairperson called upon employees and stakeholders to
actively participate in the SHS 2026 cleanliness initiatives and contribute to
creating and maintaining a clean, hygienic and sustainable Port environment. He
emphasised that cleanliness and environmental protection require sustained
collective effort and active participation from all sections of the Port
community.
As part of the
awareness programme, the CANMASS team presented a street play titled “ମହା
ବିପତ୍ତିରୁ
ଉଦ୍ଧାର
(Maha Bipattiru Udhara)” at the PPA Administrative Building. Using the engaging
medium of street theatre, the team highlighted the importance of cleanliness,
personal and community hygiene, responsible waste management and environmental
protection.
The street play
focused on the need to maintain clean surroundings, prevent pollution, avoid
improper disposal of waste and adopt environmentally responsible practices.
Through a locally relatable and engaging presentation, it encouraged
individuals and communities to recognise their role in maintaining a clean and
healthy environment.
The programme
witnessed participation from PPA officials, employees and other stakeholders,
who appreciated the CANMASS team’s efforts to communicate important messages on
cleanliness and environmental responsibility through an effective
public-awareness medium.
Strengthening its
focus on environmental sustainability, PPA is also undertaking tree plantation
activities at identified locations across the Port and township areas. The
plantation drive aims to enhance green cover, support environmental
conservation and create greater awareness about the importance of trees and a
healthy environment.
Under SHS 2026, PPA
is undertaking a wide range of activities, including cleanliness drives, tree
plantation, awareness programmes, school outreach activities,
cleanliness-awareness hoardings, Swachhata Rath, cleaning and maintenance of
Port and public facilities, digital awareness displays, human chains and street
plays.
PPA is also promoting
plastic-free and environmentally responsible celebrations, encouraging the use
of reusable alternatives, proper waste segregation and responsible disposal
practices. Special emphasis is being laid on environmental sustainability,
plantation, beautification and awareness among employees, Port users and the
local community.
Another notable
initiative being promoted by PPA is “Scrap to Structure”, which showcases the
creative reuse of discarded materials and underlines the importance of resource
recovery, recycling and responsible waste management.
Through these initiatives, Paradip Port Authority continues to strengthen its commitment to the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission and Swachhata Hi Seva, while encouraging collective action towards a cleaner, greener and healthier Paradip.
PPA has appealed to all employees, CISF personnel, Port users, stakeholders and members of the local community to actively participate in SHS 2026 and make cleanliness, environmental care and responsible waste management a sustained habit and a shared responsibility.
