Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has set a new
benchmark in cargo handling, with its Mechanised Coal Handling Plant (MCHP)
recording its highest-ever single-day coal loading of 1,40,022 metric tonnes
across two vessels on October 10, marking a significant improvement in
operational efficiency.
The record was achieved through loading
operations on board M.V. APJ Indrani and M.V. Ripley Pinnacle, surpassing the
previous best of 1,37,500 MT recorded on May 29, 2022, through M.V. Arethousa
and M.V. ISL Star.
The latest performance represents an increase
of 2,522 MT over the previous record, underlining the port's enhanced
cargo-handling capabilities and improved operational coordination.
Paradip Port Authority Chairperson Susanta
Kumar Purohit congratulated the workers, officers and personnel associated with
MCHP for achieving the milestone, commending their dedication, teamwork and
commitment to operational excellence.
The achievement reflects the collective
efforts of the port workforce in improving productivity, optimising
infrastructure utilisation and ensuring faster cargo movement, Purohit said.
The record also highlights the growing
operational capabilities of Paradip Port, one of India's major maritime
gateways on the eastern coast, as it continues to strengthen its role in the
country's trade and logistics network.
Efficient handling of bulk cargo, particularly
coal, remains crucial to supporting industrial supply chains and improving
logistics performance. Higher loading rates can help enhance vessel turnaround
efficiency, subject to overall operational and scheduling conditions.
Paradip Port Authority has been focusing on continuous improvements in cargo handling, infrastructure utilisation and operational performance as part of its broader push to strengthen the port's capacity and competitiveness.
The latest milestone marks another step in the port's efforts to emerge as a leading mega port and contribute to India's expanding maritime trade and logistics ecosystem.
