Responding to the devastating floods that have ravaged Upper
Assam, Reliance Foundation has launched a comprehensive multi-sectoral relief
and rehabilitation initiative to support communities affected by the disaster.
Working in coordination with government authorities, the
Foundation aims to reach at least 10,000 flood-affected families in the
worst-hit districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo with critical relief and
recovery assistance.
Triggered by intense rainfall and flash floods, the disaster
has claimed lives, damaged homes and infrastructure, disrupted livelihoods, and
heightened public health risks across the region. Sivasagar and Charaideo are
among the worst-affected districts, with more than 500,000 people impacted. The
floods have caused extensive damage to infrastructure, livelihoods, livestock,
and essential services.
Reliance Foundation's relief efforts are being implemented
following rapid on-ground needs assessments conducted by its Disaster
Management professionals in consultation with district authorities and local
stakeholders. The key interventions include public health risk management, food
and nutrition support, emergency shelter assistance, and livestock protection.
Reliance Foundation has begun cleaning and restoring
Community Health Centres to help resume essential healthcare services. The
Foundation is also providing safe drinking water and ensuring access to hygiene
and sanitation supplies for displaced and affected families.
Reliance Foundation has established community kitchens to
provide cooked meals to families without access to food or essential supplies.
In addition, dry ration kits are being distributed to ensure sustained
nutritional support.
Emergency shelter kits containing tarpaulins, ground sheets,
mosquito nets, ropes, and bedding are being arranged to provide immediate
protection and basic shelter for displaced families.
A 39-member team from Vantara is on the ground providing
livestock protection, veterinary care, and support for other community animals.
Reliance Foundation will also provide feed support for approximately 4,000
livestock affected by the floods.
Reliance Foundation's team of professionals is working
closely with district administrations, relevant government departments, local
community institutions, and partner organizations to ensure timely and
effective delivery of relief assistance to those most in need.
