“A robust transmission network is the backbone of a developed Odisha,” said Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Monday while inaugurating a state-of-the-art Power System Simulation Laboratory at the Power Training Centre (PTC), Chandaka, in Bhubaneswar. The facility, established by the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), was unveiled in the presence of Chairman-cum-Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Singh Deo stated that the new laboratory would empower engineers to anticipate challenges, optimize grid operations, and ensure uninterrupted 24x7 quality power supply to industries, agriculture, and households. He emphasized that the move reflects the Government’s commitment to building a modern, reliable, and technology-driven power sector in line with the vision of a “Viksit Odisha.”

The newly commissioned laboratory is designed to strengthen OPTCL’s technical capability in power system planning, grid management, and operational reliability. Equipped with advanced simulation tools, the facility will enable engineers to model complex grid scenarios, analyze load flow, study system stability, and simulate fault conditions in real time. This is expected to significantly enhance the resilience and efficiency of Odisha’s transmission network, crucial for meeting the state’s growing energy demands and integrating renewable energy sources.

OPTCL CMD Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma described the laboratory as a centre of excellence for capacity building, research, and innovation in power system studies. He noted that it would provide hands-on training to engineers from OPTCL and the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC), support data-driven decision-making, and strengthen preparedness for grid contingencies.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Director (SLDC) B.B. Mehta, Director (Operation) Prasanta Kumar Pattanaik, Director (Projects) Pradeep Kumar Dash, Director (Finance) Srikanta Kumar Sahoo, and CGM (HRD) Anita Mahapatra, who proposed the vote of thanks. Senior officials, engineers, and staff of OPTCL were also present on the occasion, marking a significant step forward in the state’s power sector advancement.
