ROURKELA, JULY 5, 2026

SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for the long-term supply of sulphur pellets, a critical raw material used in the production of sulphuric acid at the plant’s Coal Chemicals Department (CCD). The agreement, signed on July 3, 2026, is expected to strengthen supply chain reliability, enhance production efficiency and support cost-effective operations.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at the ED (MM) Conference Hall in the presence of Anil Kumar, Executive Director (Materials Management). The agreement was signed by T. Vinod, Chief General Manager (Materials Management), RSP, and Prakash Bharati, Divisional Institutional Business Head, Sambalpur Division, IOCL, on behalf of their respective organisations.

Also present on the occasion were Debadutta Rautray, General Manager, Institutional Business, IOCL; Rakesh Joshi, Chief General Manager (CO & CCD), RSP; and other senior officials from both RSP and IOCL.

Under the agreement, IOCL will supply 7,500 metric tonnes of sulphur pellets annually to RSP. The MoU will remain valid for an initial period of three years, with a provision for extension by another two years, ensuring a stable and uninterrupted supply of the essential raw material.

The collaboration is aligned with RSP’s ongoing efforts to adopt best-in-class practices in procurement and strengthen its raw material sourcing strategy. The assured availability of sulphur pellets is expected to support sustained production, improve operational reliability and enhance overall efficiency at the Coal Chemicals Department.

The comprehensive framework and terms of the MoU were prepared by H. Rout, AGM (MM-Purchase), and D.K. Das, Deputy Manager (MM-Purchase), under the guidance of G.S. Goswami, General Manager (MM-Purchase).
