SAIL-run Rourkela
Steel Plant (RSP) has recorded its best-ever cumulative first-half production
of saleable steel since inception, producing 20,86,093 tonnes during
April-September 2026, the company said on Saturday.
The performance
surpassed the previous best of 20,78,176 tonnes achieved during the
corresponding period in 2023. Saleable steel production also grew 1.6 per cent
from 20,52,990 tonnes produced during April-September 2025-26.
The strong
performance was supported by record output across several production units of
the integrated steel plant.
Sinter Plant-I
produced 7,51,303 tonnes during the first half, exceeding its previous best of
7,41,937 tonnes achieved in 2025. SMS-II recorded crude steel production of
17,98,523 tonnes, marginally surpassing its earlier best of 17,95,451 tonnes
recorded in 2024.
HSM#2 also registered
its highest-ever first-half production of HR Coil at 13,22,550 tonnes,
bettering the previous record of 13,05,557 tonnes achieved in 2025.
Plate Mill produced
2,64,113 tonnes of plates during the period, surpassing its earlier best of
2,56,072 tonnes achieved in 2021, while New Plate Mill recorded 5,05,519
tonnes, exceeding its previous record of 5,03,933 tonnes achieved in 2025.
The Silicon Steel
Mill produced 40,730 tonnes of CRNO during the first half, edging past the
previous best of 40,608 tonnes achieved in 2008. HR Plate production stood at
1,67,591 tonnes, against the earlier best of 1,52,415 tonnes recorded in 2025.
CRNO production registered
a year-on-year growth of 22.3 per cent, while HR Plate production increased 9.1
per cent during the period. ERWPP also posted a significant 27.6 per cent
growth, with production rising to 23,355 tonnes from 16,898 tonnes in the
corresponding period of the previous year.
RSP also achieved
several notable production milestones in September and during the second
quarter of the financial year.
The plant produced
3,71,030 tonnes of hot metal in September, surpassing the previous best
September output of 3,62,535 tonnes achieved in 2025. New Plate Mill also
recorded its highest-ever September production of plates at 94,517 tonnes,
compared with the earlier best of 83,862 tonnes.
During July-September
2026, HSM#2 achieved its best-ever second-quarter HR Coil production of
6,78,382 tonnes. HR Plate production during the quarter stood at 85,077 tonnes,
with both figures surpassing their respective previous best records.
