DELHI, OCTOBER 3, 2026
Vedanta Power Ltd.
reported a 26 per cent year-on-year increase in power sales at 5,593 million
units (MU) in the second quarter of the current fiscal, compared with 4,433 MU
in the corresponding period a year ago.
For the first half of
the fiscal, the company’s power sales rose 32 per cent year-on-year to 10,817
MU, driven by improved plant performance and higher availability across its
portfolio, the company said in a statement on Saturday.
The growth was led by
a sharp increase in generation at Meenakshi Energy and a significant turnaround
in operations at the Jharsuguda Thermal Plant.
Meenakshi Energy
recorded a 111 per cent year-on-year increase in power sales to 1,470 MU during
the September quarter. Its sales for the first half of the fiscal stood at
2,820 MU, marking a 160 per cent increase from the year-earlier period.
The company
attributed the improvement to operations across the expanded 1,000-MW capacity
base, which has strengthened Meenakshi Energy’s contribution to its overall generation
portfolio.
Jharsuguda Thermal
Plant also registered a strong recovery, with power sales surging 186 per cent
year-on-year to 873 MU in the second quarter. Sales for the first half rose 59 per
cent to 1,559 MU.
The plant’s
availability factor improved sharply to 98 per cent during the quarter, from 43
per cent in the year-earlier period, enabling higher generation and sales.
Meanwhile, the Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant continued to provide a stable operating base for the company’s power portfolio.
Vedanta Power said it remained focused on ensuring reliable power supply while supporting India’s growing and evolving energy requirements.
