Marking Gandhi Jayanti with a focus on cleanliness, environmental responsibility and community participation, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, organised cleanliness and community engagement drives in Sambalpur and Nuapada on October 2.

The initiative brought together TPWODL employees, Business Associate (BA) teams, their families and community stakeholders, who participated in cleanliness activities and awareness programmes aimed at promoting responsible waste management and a cleaner, greener environment.

The main programme at the Right Dyke of Hirakud Dam in Burla was attended by TPWODL CEO Parveen Verma, along with Sambalpur Municipal Corporation Deputy Commissioners Hariom Bhoi, Viktor Soren and Devendra Rout, and Sambalpur Forest Ranger Rajesh Mahakud.

Speaking on the occasion, Verma said collective participation was essential to creating a cleaner and healthier environment.

“Cleanliness and environmental protection are responsibilities we all share. Through initiatives like Tata Volunteering Week, we bring our employees, Business Associates, their families and local communities together to contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment. Such collective efforts help build awareness and encourage lasting community participation.”

The programme also acknowledged the contribution of BA teams and housekeeping staff under the ‘Touching BA Lives’ initiative. Families of BA employees added a cultural dimension to the event with dance and musical performances.

A street play, or nukkad natak, was also staged to create awareness about the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and the ULA Scheme, using an accessible community-oriented format to communicate the initiatives.

In Nuapada, TPWODL’s Electricity Division organised a similar cleanliness drive at the Mini Stadium, with employees participating in activities promoting cleanliness and civic responsibility. The company’s security team in Burla also undertook cleanliness activities across office premises, extending the campaign to the workplace.

The activities form part of Tata Volunteering Week 2026, under which TPWODL is organising a series of initiatives across western Odisha focusing on cleanliness, environmental awareness, civic responsibility and community engagement.

TPWODL, a 51:49 joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, is responsible for electricity distribution and retail supply across western Odisha. The company serves more than two million consumers across nine districts, covering a distribution area of approximately 48,000 sq. km.
