The
Marketing Department of SAIL-run Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has created history
by registering its highest-ever revenue collection of around Rs 3,325 crore
during the last financial year, surpassing all previous records through strategic
sales initiatives and enhanced operational efficiency.
This
outstanding performance was driven by robust growth across key business
segments compared to FY 2024-25. Iron and Steel emerged as the top contributor,
generating Rs 466 crore, marking an impressive 39 per cent increase over the
previous year. Coal Chemical Items contributed Rs 386 crore, up 8 per cent,
while Waste Products earned Rs 298 crore, registering a 7 per cent rise. The
Special Plate Plant added Rs 301 crore, reflecting a steady growth of around 3
per cent.
A
series of pioneering initiatives played a crucial role in this achievement. The
department successfully implemented paperless operations across the entire
marketing division and fully digitalised mine marketing functions within the
SAP system, significantly improving efficiency and transparency.
RSP's
Marketing Department also posted a record Rs 51 crore in revenue from BOF slag
sales during the year. Notably, the price of LD sludge — a process waste
generated during steelmaking — rose sharply from Rs 335 per tonne to Rs 1,122
per tonne, an extraordinary jump of 235 per cent, substantially boosting
earnings from steel process waste.
Despite acute rake shortages, the department effectively addressed the challenge of excess Blast Furnace Granulated Slag within just two to three months, demonstrating exceptional agility, market insight and crisis management capabilities.
These remarkable achievements have not only strengthened SAIL's financial performance but have also reinforced Rourkela Steel Plant's position as a leader in innovative, sustainable and efficient steel marketing.
