ROURKELA, OCTOBER 1, 2026

The New Plate Mill (NPM) of state-run steel major SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has set new records in production and dispatch during September 2026, strengthening its operational performance in the first half of the current financial year.

The mill produced 94,517 tonnes of plates during September, its best-ever September production since inception, surpassing the previous record of 83,862 tonnes achieved in September 2025.

The September output also marked the highest production achieved by the mill in a 30-day month since its inception, exceeding the earlier record of 89,224 tonnes registered in June 2026.

The NPM also posted its best-ever September dispatch since inception, dispatching 90,237 tonnes of plates during the month. The figure surpassed the previous September record of 88,775 tonnes achieved in September 2023 and also emerged as the highest dispatch recorded by the mill in a 30-day month.

The mill’s cumulative production during the first half of the current financial year stood at 5,05,519 tonnes, marginally higher than the 5,03,933 tonnes recorded during the corresponding period last year.

The achievement assumes significance as the mill maintained its first-half production performance despite undergoing 11 days of capital repair, reflecting the efforts towards sustaining operational efficiency and output.

Congratulating the NPM team, its leadership and the associated departments on the performance, RSP Director-in-Charge Alok Verma said continual improvement and sustained growth were essential for achieving sustainable profits in any business organisation.

He encouraged the team to maintain the momentum and continue contributing to the growth and performance of SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant.
