In a strong start to
the new financial year, the Steel Authority of India Limited’s Rourkela Steel
Plant (RSP) has delivered its best-ever April performance across multiple
operational parameters, reaffirming its position as one of India’s most
efficient and high-performing steel manufacturing hubs.
Showcasing remarkable
operational momentum, Sinter Plant-III led the charge with a production of
3,13,234 tonnes, pushing total sinter output to a record 6,11,259 tonnes for
April. Blast Furnace #5 also registered its highest-ever April output,
producing 2,73,186 tonnes of hot metal, reflecting robust furnace efficiency
and optimized raw material utilization. The Steel Melting Shop-2 (SMS-2) contributed
significantly with 3,18,925 tonnes of crude steel, while combined output from
both steel melting shops reached 3,43,365 tonnes, marking a new benchmark for
the period.
The plant’s
downstream units mirrored this stellar performance. The New Plate Mill rolled
an impressive 88,203 tonnes of plates, while Hot Strip Mill-2 achieved 2,30,831
tonnes of HR coil production—both the highest ever for April. Adding to the
milestone achievements, the Sheet Shearing Line of HSM-2 recorded an all-time
high HR plate production of 26,686 tonnes. Notably, total saleable steel output
crossed 3,61,801 tonnes during the month, underscoring strong market alignment
and efficient supply chain execution.
Beyond production records, RSP also demonstrated its ability to meet key operational targets in critical areas. Coke Oven Battery-6 maintained a steady oven pushing rate of 363 numbers per day, while Sintering Plants I and II produced 1,27,235 tonnes and 1,70,790 tonnes respectively. The plant also delivered 1,89,205 tonnes of HR coils for sale from HSM-2 and produced 5,019 tonnes of ERW pipes, reflecting consistency across the value chain.
This exceptional April performance highlights Rourkela Steel Plant’s sustained focus on productivity, technological optimization, and workforce excellence. Backed by strategic initiatives and operational discipline, the plant continues to align closely with SAIL’s broader production goals, setting the tone for a high-growth trajectory in the months ahead.
