Rourkela Steel Plant’s Sinter Plant-1 has scripted a new
production record, underscoring the unit’s operational resilience by achieving
its highest-ever sinter output of 5,11,262 tonnes during the April-July period
since inception, despite the significant production challenges posed by the
monsoon season.
The latest performance surpassed the previous best of
4,97,233 tonnes, marking a growth of 2.7 per cent and reinforcing the plant’s
ability to sustain high operating efficiency under demanding conditions.
The achievement assumes added significance as the rainy
season creates several operational hurdles for sinter production. During this
period, the Base Mix, a key raw material for sinter making, is sourced through
open-yard processing at the Raw Material Handling Plant. Increased moisture in
other inputs, including lime and dolomite fines, also raises resistance during
the sintering process, affecting production efficiency.
Despite these constraints, Sinter Plant-1 achieved 102.8 per
cent of its Annual Business Plan (ABP) target in July and 103.5 per cent during
the April-July period, reflecting sustained operational discipline and
equipment reliability.
The record performance was the result of coordinated efforts
by the Operations, Mechanical and Electrical departments, backed by active
support from all associated agencies. Strict adherence to operating practices
and sustained equipment availability played a key role in maintaining the
plant’s performance at high levels.
With all three blast furnaces of RSP in operation, ensuring optimum performance of Sinter Plant-1 has assumed greater importance, as a steady supply of quality sinter is critical to maintaining blast furnace productivity.
The department is now focused on sustaining the momentum and building on the record performance to achieve further production milestones in the coming months.
