ROURKELA, SEPTEMBER 12, 2026

SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has achieved a significant milestone in pipe manufacturing, with its Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) Pipe Plant producing more than 20,000 tonnes in a single month, while registering an impressive nearly 31 per cent year-on-year growth during the April-August period of 2026-27, officials said.

As SAIL’s only pipe-producing unit catering to both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) segments, the Rourkela facility’s performance highlights its growing capabilities in specialised pipe manufacturing and its focus on operational efficiency, quality and customer-centric solutions.

The ERW Pipe Plant has also strengthened its product portfolio by increasing its focus on special-grade pipes conforming to stringent American Petroleum Institute (API) specifications and products with higher diameter-to-thickness ratios. The move is aimed at enhancing value for end users while improving SAIL’s revenue potential and strengthening its position in the market.

The plant’s technical capabilities are reflected in an order currently under processing for 8.2 km of API X52 grade pipes, featuring a 14-inch diameter and 8 mm thickness. The order demonstrates the facility’s ability to manufacture pipes meeting demanding technical specifications while maintaining stringent quality standards.

With pipes constituting an important segment of SAIL’s product portfolio, RSP is focusing on optimising production, upgrading product quality and expanding its range of value-added offerings.

The latest production achievement and strong year-on-year growth position the ERW Pipe Plant to sustain its momentum and play a larger role in meeting the requirements of infrastructure and industrial development, officials said.
