In a significant development for Odisha’s power sector governance, Sudhanshu Sekhar Barpanda was sworn in as Member of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) at a formal ceremony held on Wednesday at the Commission’s Hearing Hall in Bhubaneswar.

The oath of office and secrecy was administered in the presence of Additional Chief Secretary, Energy, Vishal Kumar Dev, senior officials of the Energy Department, Government of Odisha, and Members of the Commission.

The appointment comes at a crucial juncture as Odisha continues to pursue power sector reforms, renewable energy expansion, and enhanced consumer services. As the State’s apex electricity regulator, OERC plays a central role in tariff determination, licensing, consumer protection, and fostering efficiency, competition, and sustainable growth in the electricity sector.

With extensive administrative experience, Barpanda’s induction is expected to further strengthen the Commission’s regulatory framework and contribute to Odisha’s long-term goals of energy security, power sector modernization, and consumer-centric governance. His appointment is also seen as reinforcing the State’s vision of building a resilient and future-ready energy ecosystem under the broader agenda of Viksit Odisha.

Senior representatives from the Energy Department, Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC), GRIDCO, Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), OERC, and various power utilities attended the swearing-in ceremony.
