Tata Power has signed
a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd
(BPCL) to develop 110 kV power infrastructure to meet the 90 MW electricity
requirement of the oil major's Petro Resid Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit
(PRFCCU) project at its Mumbai Refinery.
Under the agreement,
Tata Power will provide 110 kV connectivity and undertake the design and
development of the associated power infrastructure, with the project expected
to be completed in approximately 24 months, subject to applicable approvals and
project milestones.
The combined
estimated outlay for Tata Power and BPCL is around Rs 250 crore.
The PRFCCU project,
with a processing capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) and an
estimated investment of Rs 14,203 crore, is BPCL's second-largest project
currently under execution and the largest ever undertaken at its Mumbai
Refinery.
Described as the
first project of its kind being executed in India, the initiative is expected
to boost domestic value addition, strengthen the country's energy security and
contribute to the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
The collaboration
will also strengthen Tata Power's transmission network in the Trombay area,
enabling it to cater to anticipated growth in electricity demand from large
industrial consumers in the region.
As part of its
broader strategy to build a robust and future-ready power network for Mumbai,
Tata Power plans to develop a 400 kV transmission facility at Trombay over the
next five years.
The proposed augmentation is expected to enhance power evacuation capacity and improve grid reliability for the city's industrial and commercial establishments.
The partnership underscores the two companies' focus on strengthening Mumbai's energy infrastructure and supporting long-term industrial growth amid rising power demand.
