Tata Power-led Odisha
Discoms observed 'Electrical Safety Week 2026' from June 26 to July 2 with a
comprehensive statewide campaign aimed at strengthening electrical safety
awareness and fostering a culture of prevention across the state. The week-long
initiative reaffirmed the Discoms' commitment to promoting a 'zero-harm'
environment while enhancing the safety ecosystem for millions of electricity
consumers in Odisha.
The campaign was
closely aligned with the vision of the Energy Department, Government of Odisha,
and was conducted under the central theme, "Today's Awareness, Tomorrow's
Prevention." Through a series of public outreach and internal
capacity-building initiatives, the Discoms sought to bridge corporate responsibility
with public welfare by reinforcing essential electrical safety practices. These
included promoting the installation of Residual Current Circuit Breakers
(RCCBs), encouraging the use of certified ISI-marked electrical equipment,
discouraging the use of overloaded power sockets, and highlighting
precautionary measures during lightning strikes and thunderstorms.
As part of the
initiative, Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms actively disseminated real-time
public safety advisories through leading newspapers and social media platforms,
amplifying the Energy Department's safety messages and emergency response
protocols to reach a wider audience.
The week also
featured a series of structured internal training programmes and awareness
sessions for employees and business associates to reinforce compliance with
electrical safety standards, strengthen operational discipline, and encourage
proactive risk mitigation across the organisation.
To further enhance
field-level preparedness, senior leadership conducted walk-downs across various
operational circles, directly engaging with field teams to review safety
practices. These were complemented by surprise inspections, comprehensive
electrical safety audits, and routine health checks of electrical systems to
ensure infrastructure reliability and strict adherence to maintenance
protocols.
Extensive grassroots
outreach formed another key component of the campaign. Division-level street
plays and public awareness rallies were organised across different locations to
communicate crucial electrical safety messages and encourage greater community
participation in safe electricity practices.
Special awareness
programmes were also conducted in schools and educational institutions to
educate students about electrical safety from an early age. Consumer awareness
meetings further helped spread vital safety information among local
communities, promoting responsible electricity usage and hazard prevention.
To encourage
innovation and greater stakeholder participation, the Discoms organised a range
of safety-themed competitions involving employees, their families, and business
associate officials. These initiatives provided a platform for sharing best
practices, generating innovative safety ideas, and strengthening a culture of
collective responsibility.
Through this
coordinated statewide campaign, Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms have reaffirmed
their commitment to strengthening Odisha's power distribution network while
advancing the shared public-private mission of creating a safer, more
resilient, and hazard-free environment for all citizens.
