In a major step
towards ensuring uninterrupted power supply during the world-famous Rath Yatra
2026, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) has successfully
completed 'Mission Chakanayana-2026', a special one-day mass preventive
maintenance drive aimed at strengthening the electricity distribution network
in and around the pilgrim town of Puri.
The large-scale
initiative formed a key part of TPCODL's comprehensive preparedness plan for
the annual festival, which attracts millions of devotees from across India and
abroad. By undertaking extensive preventive maintenance ahead of the grand
event, the power utility has reinforced its operational readiness to deliver
reliable and safe electricity services throughout the festivities.
The mission covered
Puri town along with the critical power corridors connecting the holy city.
Around 400 personnel participated in the drive, including dedicated teams from
the Puri, Khordha, Balugaon and Nayagarh divisions under the Bhubaneswar-II
Circle. The coordinated effort reflected TPCODL's commitment to maintaining a
robust power distribution system during one of Odisha's largest religious
gatherings.
As part of the
intensive maintenance exercise, teams carried out preventive maintenance of the
33 kV, 11 kV and low-tension (LT) distribution networks. The operation also
included extensive tree trimming to prevent vegetation-related disruptions,
conductor restringing to enhance network reliability, hotspot rectification,
installation of lightning arresters, and maintenance of primary substations and
transformers at strategically important locations across Puri and its
surrounding areas.
The comprehensive maintenance
programme was designed to identify and address potential vulnerabilities in the
power network before the commencement of the Rath Yatra, thereby minimising the
possibility of outages during the festival. Special emphasis was placed on
strengthening critical infrastructure that supports uninterrupted electricity
supply to temples, public utilities, administrative establishments, and the
large influx of pilgrims expected during the celebrations.
With the successful
completion of Mission Chakanayana-2026, TPCODL has significantly enhanced the
resilience of its distribution network and reinforced its emergency
preparedness. The initiative is expected to ensure uninterrupted, reliable and
safe electricity supply throughout the Rath Yatra festivities, enabling the
seamless conduct of one of the world's largest and most revered religious
festivals.
