TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL)
has become the first power distribution company in Odisha to facilitate more
than 50,000 rooftop solar (RTS) installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft
Bijli Yojana, marking a significant milestone in the state's clean energy
transition.
The achievement underscores the growing
adoption of rooftop solar systems across TPCODL's licence area and reinforces
the utility's commitment to promoting distributed renewable energy as part of
Odisha's sustainable development agenda.
Among all districts in its operational area,
Khordha and Cuttack have emerged as the leading contributors to the milestone.
Khordha has recorded 13,358 rooftop solar installations, while Cuttack has
registered 12,165 installations, together accounting for a substantial share of
TPCODL's overall rooftop solar capacity under the flagship Central government
scheme.
The company attributed the achievement to its
sustained consumer awareness and outreach initiatives aimed at encouraging
households to adopt clean energy solutions. These include the 'Mo Chhata, Mo
Sanchaya' campaign, Surya Ghar Gram Sabhas and the ongoing Solar Rath campaign across various districts, which have helped
create widespread awareness about rooftop solar and boosted participation in
the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
As part of the Solar Rath campaign, 'Solar
Sanga' is educating consumers about the benefits of rooftop solar, the
financial support available from the Central and State governments, eligibility
criteria, the application process and the installation process for a 1 kW
rooftop solar system under the ULA Model as well as the 3 kW RTS system,
enabling consumers to select the option best suited to their energy
requirements.
Apart from these initiatives, TPCODL is implementing
several other awareness and consumer engagement programmes to encourage wider
adoption of rooftop solar systems across its licence area.
Speaking on the achievement, TPCODL CEO Gajanan S. Kale said, "Crossing the milestone of over 50,000 rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a proud achievement for TPCODL and Odisha's clean energy mission. It reflects the trust of our consumers and the collective efforts of our employees, Business Associates and State Government Administration and all other stakeholders. We remain committed to accelerating rooftop solar adoption and supporting Odisha's vision of a greener and energy-secure future."
With continued consumer engagement, streamlined implementation and strong support from the Government of Odisha and the Government of India, TPCODL said it is playing a pivotal role in accelerating the state's transition towards clean and sustainable energy while contributing to India's broader renewable energy and energy security goals.
