Leveraging the massive footfall of the ongoing Rath Yatra in
Puri, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata
Power and the Government of Odisha, has rolled out Odisha's first-ever mobile
rooftop solar awareness campaign, 'Solar Rath', to accelerate the adoption of
clean energy under the PM Surya Ghar:
Muft Bijli Yojana. The initiative aims to educate households on the
benefits of rooftop solar, government subsidies and the application process,
bringing renewable energy awareness directly to consumers.
The campaign was inaugurated by Chief Guest Niti Ranjan Sen, Managing
Director, Odisha State Seeds Corporation Ltd., in the presence of TPCODL's
circle and division leadership.
As part of the initiative, two dedicated 'Solar Sanga' are
accompanying the ‘Solar Rath’ to spread awareness on rooftop solar among
consumers. They are educating citizens about the benefits of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, the
financial savings offered by rooftop solar, the Central and State government
subsidies available, eligibility criteria, and the step-by-step application
process.
The campaign also features a 1 kW ULA model along with
various rooftop solar solutions, enabling consumers to better understand and
identify systems best suited to their household energy requirements.
Capitalising on the large influx of devotees during Rath
Yatra, the ‘Solar Rath’ is travelling across Puri city and key locations in the
district, including Konark, Kakatpur, Nimapada, Pipili, Sakhigopal, Chandanpur,
Kanas and Brahmagiri.
Through village outreach, community interactions and awareness sessions, TPCODL aims to make reliable information on rooftop solar easily accessible, enabling more families to lower their electricity bills, generate clean energy and contribute to a sustainable future. The initiative is expected to drive greater participation in the Government of India's flagship rooftop solar programme.
As Odisha's first-of-its-kind mobile rooftop solar awareness initiative, the ‘Solar Rath’ underscores TPCODL's commitment to deepening consumer engagement while supporting the government's vision of expanding renewable energy adoption and building a cleaner, greener and energy-secure Odisha.
